BioChar by Terra Nova

Permanent carbon removal, rooted in the soil and scaled across the world

Terra Nova is building a global network of next-generation biochar production plants, developed in partnership with trusted operators across multiple regions. Each facilitytransforms agricultural waste into stable, long-lasting carbon, creating high-integrity carbon credits that can be leased on the Terra Nova platform alongside our tokenized tree-based carbon credits

Biochar is more than a product – it is a regenerative technology that restores soils, empowers farmers, and locks carbon away for centuries.

This is Terra Nova Biochar.

A Regenerative Solution for a Regenerative World

Biochar is ancient wisdom meeting modern climate innovation. Terra Nova brings this solution to life with scientific rigor, digital transparency, and a global vision for regeneration.

Permanent carbon removal

Empowered communities

A healthier planet

A Global Biochar Network for a Regenerative Future

To meet the world’s growing demand for high-quality carbon removal, Terra Nova is setting up its own BioChar manufacturing plants and also partnering with pyrolysis facilities and agricultural cooperatives across the globe. Our vision is simple:

Build and support biochar plants in strategic regions

Convert local agricultural residues into permanent carbon storage

Issue certified carbon credits backed by transparent MRV

Lease these credits on the Terra Nova platform to businesses and individuals seeking credible climate action

This global model ensures that carbon removal is not only scalable – it is equitable, local, and economically empowering

How Terra Nova Biochar Is Made

Our partner facilities use clean, high-temperature pyrolysis to convert biomass into stable carbon. This process:

Prevents CO₂ from re-entering the atmosphere.
Produces a carbon-rich material that remains stable for hundreds to thousands of years.
Generates renewable energy co-benefits in certain systems.
Supports circular economies by turning waste into value.

Every batch is measured, verified, and recorded on Terra Nova’s digital infrastructure for full transparency.

Why Biochar Is a High-Integrity Carbon Removal Pathway

Biochar is one of the most scientifically validated carbon removal solutions available today. It offers:

Permanence – Carbon is locked in a solid form that resists decomposition

Soil regeneration – Enhances water retention, nutrient cycling, and microbial life

Farmer resilience – Reduces fertilizer needs and improves crop yields

Waste reduction – Converts agricultural residues into climate-positive resources

Scalability – Can be produced in diverse geographies with local feedstocks

This makes biochar a cornerstone of Terra Nova’s long-term climate strategy.

BioChar by Terra Nova

Each tonne of Terra Nova Biochar corresponds to verified, permanent carbon removal. On the Terra Nova platform, these credits can be:

Leased by businesses seeking high-integrity climate action
Bundled with tokenized tree-based credits for hybrid portfolios
Tracked through blockchain-backed certificates
Audited through transparent MRV and geolocation data

This creates a new standard for trust, traceability, and accessibility in carbon markets

Biochar + Tokenized Trees: A Unified Climate Portfolio

Terra Nova uniquely combines:

Permanent carbon removal from biochar
Living carbon sinks from grown-up trees and regenerative plantations

Together, they form a balanced climate portfolio that blends:

Long-term permanence
Natural ecosystem restoration
Community and farmer benefits
Scalable global deployment

This dual approach strengthens the integrity and impact of every credit on the Terra Nova platform.

What Is Biochar?

Biochar is a carbon-rich, charcoal-like material created by heating organic biomass (such as agricultural waste, wood residues, or crop by-products) in a low-oxygen environment – a process called pyrolysis.

This process locks carbon into a stable solid form that can remain in the soil for hundreds to thousands of years, preventing it from returning to the atmosphere as CO₂

Why Biochar Matters?

Biochar is considered one of the world’s most reliable and scalable carbon removal technologies because it delivers:
Permanent carbon storage – The carbon becomes chemically stable and resists decomposition.
Soil regeneration – Improves soil structure, water retention, nutrient efficiency, and microbial activity.
Agricultural resilience – Helps farmers reduce fertilizer use and increase yields.
Circular economy benefits – Converts waste streams into valuable climate-positive resources.
It’s a climate solution that benefits both the planet and local communities.

How Biochar Is Made?

Biochar is produced through pyrolysis, where biomass is heated at high temperatures (typically 350–700°C) with little or no oxygen. This:
Prevents the biomass from burning
Converts it into stable carbon
Produces renewable heat or bio-oil as co-products
Ensures minimal emissions
The result is a lightweight, porous material that can be added to soil or used in environmental applications.
